AUSTIN, TX - A second woman has been arrested in connection with the investigation into the 2024 death of 24-year-old Cristian Rangel, marking a new development in a homicide case that has remained open for more than two years.

Xzaria White-Wooldridge was arrested Sept. 11 on a felony charge tied to alleged witness tampering in the case, according to local reports citing court records. The charge does not accuse White-Wooldridge of killing Rangel, and authorities have not announced a murder charge against anyone in his death.

Rangel disappeared April 8, 2024, after he was seen at a Walmart at 5017 W. U.S. 290 in southwest Austin. His girlfriend reported him missing the following day. Surveillance video reviewed during the investigation showed Rangel getting into a light-colored SUV in the Walmart parking lot. Police later released additional video as they sought witnesses who could help explain what happened after Rangel entered the vehicle.

Eleven days after Rangel disappeared, Austin police responded to the 5800 block of Spring Meadow Drive in Southeast Austin after a body was found in a greenbelt. The remains were later identified as Rangel. Police said an examination completed in July 2024 found injuries consistent with an assault, and investigators treated his death as a homicide.

Kamery Wooldridge was the first person charged in connection with the case. Investigators said she disposed of Rangel’s body in the greenbelt. She was charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse, a second-degree felony. She later pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced in October 2025 to 10 years in prison.

The latest arrest expands the investigation beyond the earlier corpse-tampering case. Reports citing court affidavits say investigators used cellphone records and other evidence while examining White-Wooldridge’s actions after Rangel disappeared. Investigators allege she was with Kamery Wooldridge after the events surrounding Rangel’s disappearance and later assisted with conduct intended to conceal or alter evidence. Police say fake accounts made a pickup order look legitimate, but store managers flagged the transaction before releasing merchandise.

CHATHAM COUNTY, GA - Chatham County police arrested 20-year-old Dieon Cornelius Love on Sept. 7 after investigators said he used artificial intelligence to create fraudulent accounts while posing as a delivery driver trying to pick up merchandise from a retailer.

Police charged Love with criminal attempt to commit a misdemeanor. Investigators said the fake accounts were designed to make fraudulent orders appear legitimate. Store managers noticed problems with the transaction and contacted police before any merchandise was released. The department said the arrest marked the first criminal case in its jurisdiction in which investigators had directly linked the alleged use of artificial intelligence to the offense.

Local news reports identified the business as a major national retailer but did not name it. A separate report identified the retailer as Walmart and described the alleged scheme as involving the company's Spark delivery system. That store identification and other details specific to the Spark platform were not independently confirmed in the Chatham County police or sheriff records reviewed for this report.

Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley said the case showed how rapidly changing technology can become part of more traditional criminal activity. "Technology is moving at breakneck speed, and AI adds a new and uncharted element to criminal activity," Hadley said. NEW YORK CITY, NY - Two men were fatally shot Friday night inside Howard Playground in Brooklyn's Brownsville neighborhood, prompting a double-homicide investigation as police searched for information about who opened fire and what led to the violence.

New York City police responded to reports of shots fired at about 10:23 p.m. Sept. 11 at the playground near Mother Gaston Boulevard and Glenmore Avenue. Officers arriving at the scene found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the neck and a 35-year-old man who had been shot in the chest and ankle, according to police accounts reported Saturday.

Emergency medical workers took the 33-year-old victim to Interfaith Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The 35-year-old man was taken to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center and was also pronounced dead. The pair had been wanted on murder and attempted murder charges after four people were shot at a Gaston County home.

GASTONIA, NC - Two suspects wanted in connection with a Gaston County shooting that killed two people and critically wounded two others were found dead Friday after a multi-county police pursuit ended with a crash in Ohio, authorities said.

Camryn Moore, 26, and Cory Armstrong, 29, had been sought since the Sept. 10 shooting at a home on Forbes Road in southern Gaston County. Detectives obtained warrants charging each suspect with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to police. Authorities said Moore and Armstrong fled North Carolina after the shooting and were tracked across state lines with help from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Gaston County police said officers were called to 2661 Forbes Road at about 8:43 a.m. Thursday after a report of a shooting inside the residence. Officers arrived minutes later and found four people suffering from gunshot wounds. Two victims died at the scene, while two others were taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police later said the surviving victims were in critical but stable condition.

The two people killed were identified in updated local reporting as Victoria "Heather" Moore, 50, and Josiah Bumgardner, 38. Police said Victoria Moore was Camryn Moore's mother and Bumgardner was her uncle. Authorities have not publicly released the identities of the two surviving victims. Investigators said everyone involved knew one another and described the shooting as an isolated incident with no known continuing threat to the Gaston County community.

Investigators identified Camryn Moore and Armstrong as suspects and determined that both had lived at the Forbes Road residence, police said. The officer was hospitalized in stable condition after the late-night attack near 10th and Brown streets in North Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA, PA - An off-duty Philadelphia police officer was assaulted and robbed late Thursday in North Philadelphia, leaving him injured and prompting an investigation into a personal firearm that police said was stolen during the attack.

The assault happened shortly before midnight Sept. 10 near North 10th and Brown streets, according to police and local news reports. Investigators said the officer became involved in an altercation before he was physically attacked. Police were working Friday to determine what led to the confrontation and to account for the firearm taken from the officer.

Police found the officer with cuts to his head or face and abrasions on his legs and feet, according to accounts of the preliminary investigation. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and was reported in stable condition. Authorities did not publicly identify the officer.

CBS Philadelphia reported that the officer had been leaving CDD Beer and Chinese Food, a takeout restaurant near the intersection, when he was attacked. Deputies identified Ashia La Shai Moore as the victim and arrested a 17-year-old person of interest on an evidence-tampering charge.

LAKE CITY, FL - A pregnant 16-year-old girl was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside her Columbia County apartment Wednesday, and investigators later arrested a 17-year-old person of interest on a charge of tampering with evidence, authorities said.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Ashia La Shai Moore, who lived at the apartment where deputies found her. Local news reports, citing Moore's family and the sheriff's office, said she was seven months pregnant. Authorities are investigating her death as a homicide but have not publicly announced a murder charge in the case.

Deputies went to 4826 U.S. Highway 441 South, Apartment 102, at about 4 p.m. Sept. 9 for a well-being check, according to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies made several announcements at the residence before entering through an unlocked door. Inside, they found Moore on the floor, dead from what investigators described as an apparent gunshot wound. Her family was notified after authorities confirmed her identity.

As detectives investigated the shooting, they identified 17-year-old Dominique Santonio Hill as a person of interest, the Sheriff's Office said. Investigators interviewed Hill and then arrested him on a charge of tampering with evidence. He was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility without bond. Independent investigators are reviewing the shooting after police said the man pointed a weapon at responding officers outside The Commons.

FEDERAL WAY, WA - Federal Way police fatally shot a man outside The Commons mall Thursday evening after officers said he pointed a weapon at them as they responded to reports of an armed man threatening people in the parking lot.

The shooting followed several 911 calls around 6:40 p.m. Sept. 10 reporting a man with a gun outside the shopping center near Pacific Highway South and South 320th Street, according to the Federal Way Police Department. Callers told dispatchers the man was pointing the weapon at people in the parking lot. Police said one caller reported that the man appeared to be waiting for officers to arrive.

Officers reached the mall shortly afterward and tried to contact the man, police said. According to the department’s preliminary account, the man pointed a weapon at officers during the encounter. Officers then fired, striking him. Authorities have not released the number of officers who fired or said how many shots were discharged.

Officers and medical personnel provided emergency aid after the shooting, but the man died from his injuries. His name had not been released as of Friday. Police described him as a white man believed to be in his 20s or 30s. Authorities had not released additional identifying information.

No officers or bystanders were injured, police said. The department initially told the public there was no continuing danger but asked people to avoid the area while investigators processed the scene. The shooting occurred outside the mall in the parking area, according to police accounts released Thursday night.

The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave under department policy. Police said a flatbed truck mounted the sidewalk near Canal Street and Bowery, striking three pedestrians Thursday morning.

NEW YORK CITY, NY - A 77-year-old man was killed and two women were injured Thursday after a flatbed truck mounted a sidewalk and struck three pedestrians at Canal Street and Bowery in Manhattan's Chinatown, according to police.

The crash happened around 10:20 a.m. Sept. 10 near the Manhattan Bridge. Police said the 66-year-old truck driver was traveling westbound from the bridge and attempting to turn toward Bowery when the truck went onto the curb and struck the pedestrians. The three victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead. The women, ages 52 and 71, were listed in stable condition.

The truck driver remained at the scene and was later taken into police custody. No charges had been announced in the initial reports after the crash. Police said there was no indication at that stage of the investigation that the collision was intentional.

Authorities had not publicly identified the man who died as of the latest reports. Police said his name was being withheld pending notification of his family. The names of the two injured women also had not been released.

A judge rejected requests to dismiss the case or grant bail as prosecutors await medical examiner findings in the deaths.

DEDHAM, MA - A Wellesley mother accused of killing her two young children will remain held without bail after a judge Thursday granted prosecutors more time to await findings from the state medical examiner before moving the case forward.

Janette MacAusland, 49, appeared in Dedham District Court on Sept. 10 as her attorney challenged the continued delay in the case. MacAusland faces two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her daughter, Ella MacAusland, 6, and son, Kai MacAusland, 7. The children were found dead in their Wellesley home April 24. MacAusland has pleaded not guilty.

The hearing had been scheduled as a probable cause hearing, but prosecutors said they were not prepared to proceed because the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner had not completed its determination of the cause and manner of the children’s deaths. Prosecutor Jennifer Hickman told the court that the findings were expected within the next several weeks. The medical examiner’s conclusions are significant because they would provide an official determination of how the children died.

Defense attorney Joseph Krowski Jr. objected to another delay and asked the judge either to dismiss the charges or allow MacAusland to be released on bail. Krowski argued that the case had remained at an early procedural stage for months and said the defense could not fully advance its case while waiting for prosecutors to complete their presentation. Judge Jeanmarie Carroll rejected those requests and allowed the prosecution’s motion for a continuance.

Prosecutors said evidence already collected provides a basis for the charges, including video from police in Bennington, Vermont. An affidavit cited by news organizations says MacAusland told investigators that she had strangled the children and then tried to take her own life. That account remains an allegation in the criminal case, and the medical examiner had not issued an official cause or manner of death as of Thursday’s hearing. MacAusland’s not guilty plea remains in place, and the charges have not been proven in court.

Court records also show that MacAusland and her husband had been involved in divorce and child-custody proceedings before the children’s deaths. Her defense attorney has said mental health could become an issue in the case, but he said Thursday that he had not settled on a specific defense and was still waiting for additional information.

Krowski also urged prosecutors to reconsider how the case is being charged, referring publicly to broader questions about mental illness and criminal responsibility. He cautioned against directly comparing MacAusland’s case with the separate prosecution of Duxbury mother Lindsay Clancy, whose recent trial ended without a verdict. Krowski said MacAusland’s circumstances must be evaluated on their own facts.

MacAusland remains in custody without bail. Carroll scheduled the next probable cause hearing for Oct. 29, when the court could receive an update on the medical examiner’s findings and prosecutors’ efforts to move the case toward a grand jury.

Federal prosecutors say the former treasurer diverted booster club money to pay her mortgage and credit card bills.

ALISO VIEJO, CA - A former treasurer of a nonprofit supporting the Aliso Niguel High School football program was arrested Thursday on federal charges accusing her of diverting more than $400,000 from the organization for personal expenses.

Julie Hanway Molina, 56, of Aliso Viejo, is charged with four counts of wire fraud after a federal grand jury returned an indictment Sept. 2. Prosecutors allege Molina misappropriated approximately $411,761 from the football booster organization between 2023 and November 2025. The indictment is an allegation, and Molina is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Federal prosecutors said Molina served as treasurer of the nonprofit organization supporting the high school football program and had access to its finances. Authorities allege she transferred money from the group’s bank account without its knowledge or authorization, using the funds for personal expenses that included her home mortgage and credit card bills.

One of the transactions outlined by prosecutors occurred in June 2023. Authorities allege Molina wired approximately $131,523 from the nonprofit’s bank account in Laguna Hills through Federal Reserve facilities in New Jersey and Texas to an account in Santa Ana. Prosecutors said the money was used to pay the delinquent balance on the mortgage for her Aliso Viejo home.

Investigators also allege Molina tried to conceal the unauthorized transfers from other members of the organization. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, Molina sent emails to board members containing treasurer reports that did not disclose the money prosecutors say she had diverted.

ABC7 identified the organization as the Wolverine Football Club, which supports the football program at Aliso Niguel High School. The club said in a statement that it was aware of the allegations involving its former treasurer and had cooperated fully with law enforcement during the investigation. The Capistrano Unified School District told the station that Molina was not a district employee and that the booster club operates as a separate organization.

FBI agents arrested Molina at her Aliso Viejo home on Sept. 10. Video reported by ABC7 showed federal agents outside the residence before Molina came out and was taken into custody. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said she was expected to make an initial appearance and be arraigned in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana later that day.

The FBI is investigating the case, according to federal prosecutors. If convicted, Molina could face a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison on each wire fraud count. A maximum statutory penalty does not indicate what sentence would ultimately be imposed if there is a conviction.

No later court disposition or plea had been confirmed in the available reporting as of early Sept. 11. The federal criminal case remains pending, and prosecutors will be required to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.
